What are the optimum settings for BIOS when setting up XP?

My setup stops at 74% AND I cannot get away from the
installation routines on subsequent start ups ... nor can I
remove the installation start up that will only go to 74%.

I do get an option on start up to select between "Microsoft
XP Professional" or "Install Microsoft XP Professional" The
first option opens XP but it is slow and unstable. The
second options sometimes runs to 74% and stops or gives me
a blue page with choices to stop or continue.

Obviously I'm beyond my level of knowledge to know what is
going on. Non of the literature seems to apply or I just
have not found it yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Load BIOS defaults (very conservative)! If that fails, load Setup defaults
(*the* most conservative)! IOW, you should always install w/ conservative
BIOS settings possible to make it as easy as possible to get installed. You
can always reoptimize later.
