If the Windows Update files have been deleted, the entries
in add/remove can't be removed.
From TechTV Call for Help Oct 31
Deleting MS service packs
Jim from Burbank, Calif., called asking if it's safe to
delete Windows update files. The folder's taking up 300MB on
his hard drive.
It's safe to empty the contents of the folder. The
consequence: You won't be able to remove any of the hotfixes
that were in the folder.
They showed a MS Article but did not include the KB number
in this post.
