View Full Version : Simulate Serial Connection over LAN?

Hi NG
It's necessary that two of my applications communicate with each other. The
applications just can talk (send and receive) over the COM port (nullmodem
cable).
But it's not possible for me to connect the two computers via nullmodem
cable due to distance - the computers are connected via LAN.
Does anybody know any solution for this?
Thanks

The program would have to support a network protocol in order to talk over a
LAN.
The other option would be to build a custom serial cable. I've used one
that was 100ft long before. You can take a normal cat5 cable, purchase the
necessary serial connectors from some place like radio shack.
If it's DB9 to DB9 (most likely) hook the end up in this order:
1 and 6 to 4
2 to 3
3 to 2
4 to 1 and 6
5 to 5
7 to 8
8 to 7

I see - thats great - i always thought cables such long wouldnt be effective
due to loosing of signal quality.
