Hi

Can anyone explain why my PC no longer says "Window XP Home Edition" on
bootup - after I installed Windows XP SP2? It simply say "Windows XP".

Of course this is not an issue. However its a bit confusing.

Cheers - Andrew

Andrew,
Using xp pro and after update lost the pro on bootup also.
System properties still indicate pro and have not lost any
features.

Maybe Microsoft are getting us ready for when there will only be 1 version
.....

Seems a sneaky way of operating.

You and I will 'know' what we are using, but the 'man in the street' may
screw his face up when asked if he's using Home or Pro becasse its not
evitent any more.

XP Home's green startup "pickle" has also turned blue...

Sort of, as NT-4/2000 and the 9X/ME line are discontinued, all of MS's
Operating Systems will be XP/Longhorn based. Either WinVer or the
properties of My Computer still show the product branding.

They now have four, including Tablet and Media Center, and wanted to get
away from having to maintain four different variants of the startup code
(with the graphic data built in) just for this cosmetic effect
