Seems like you ought to be able to find this info in the
Device Manager, but I could find no reliable means
of doing so...

Most computers let you press some special key when you're
booting in order to go into a low-level program that lets you
view BIOS settings. Amongst those BIOS pages is often
one that reveals what IDE devices were detected and
which are master/slave. If the word "BIOS" is not familiar,
then have a care -- you don't want to accidentally change some
BIOS settings and reboot.

If you have full documentation for the drives, then you can
yank them out and examine the jumper settings to
see how each is configured.

Hard to say which route could result in more damage
to the computer if you should spazz out at the wrong
moment. :-). Getting a little neighborhood geek help
might be best, if your own geek level is low.

It should appear on the bootup screen, use Pause if it goes too fast to
read.

Device Manager:

Set View by connection,
expand menus until you find your Master IDE controller,
your drives will be listed in order "Master" first and "Slave" second.

Master IDE controller
Primary IDE Channel
DISK_1 -- master
DISK_2 -- slave
Secondary IDE Channel
DISK_3 -- master
DISK_4 -- slave

Look at the pinning configuration on the back of the drive.

Like Joshua said, take the old out and look at the back of the CD and see
how the old is jumpered and set the new one the same.
