I am using XP (Home edition). I can activate the system
tray volume icon by going to Control Panel, Sounds and
Audio Devices, and checking the box for the icon to
appear. When the computer is rebooted, the icon
disappears. I can get it back by going back to Sounds and
Audio Devices, unchecking the Place Volume icon box,
clicking OK, and then re-checking the icon box and
clicking OK again. The Knowledge Base describes a similar
problem with Windows 2000 using the WDM audio driver or
integrated AC97 audio. Is this the same problem with
Windows XP? Any other fixes for this problem?
