Is it possible to put out a signal via the PC's internal speaker to indicate
new mail?

TIA

Internal speaker? Mine are external. But here's what is needed.
Tools>Options>General tab. Under Send/Receive, checkmark "Play sound..."
Next, go into Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Sounds tab. Look for
"New mail notification", click Browse button, and select sound from next
dialog box. Then Apply and OK to set it.

I am unable to get a sound to play when new mail arrives, and would
appreciate any suggestions.

I'm running XP Pro-SP1, with Outlook 2002 SP2.

My current settings are:

Outlook: TOOLS / OPTIONS / E-MAIL OPTIONS / ADVANCED E-MAIL OPTIONS - Play
a Sound is ticked

Control Panel: Sounds & Audio Devices / Sounds tab - Sound Scheme selected
is "Windows Default" - New mail notification has "Windows XP Notify.wav"
displayed (when test button selected - it does play the wav file).

The Office Assistant (set to the dog) makes all the appropriate sounds.

Volume Control: is at max volume.

Win Media Player works fine

In addition, I don't get the Windows Startup / Shutdown music either

I have downloaded the latest sound drivers, but still no luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated (didn't get any responses in
ms.public.outlook newsgroup)

Regards,
Steve
