I tried to install WIN XP and upgrade my computer and it
said I had a compatability issue. It partially installed
the program, but now when I reboot, it asks which
operating system i want to run. Win 98, or Win XP Setup.
I tried Win XP Setup, and even more errors came up. I
don't have a CD-Rom, and I think this is the main cause of
the problems. I have an external CD-Rom instead (SCSI).
Is this why it won't install properly? Is there a way to
undo any installation I've done so far with Win XP?
Because, when I try to shut my computer off, or even
reboot, it gets to the "Win 98 is shutting down" screen,
and then hangs there. I physically have to disconnect the
power from the computer to reboot it, which is bad, i
know, but no other way. I could really use some help.
Thanks.

Boot the computer with a Windows 98 Start-up floppy and at the command
prompt type
SYS C:
and press Enter. This will copy the system files for Windows 98 back to your
C drive and allow it to boot directly to Windows 98. After this you can
remove (delete) the following XP files if they exist in the C directory. You
need to go to Control Panel->Folder Options->View Tab and check "Show all
files and folder"
NTDETECT.COM
NTLDR
NTbootdd.sys
Boot.ini
pagefile.sys
hiberfile.sys
Documents and Settings folder (if present)
Winnt folder (if present)
