Where are Windows Updates downloaded to?...
Is it possible 2 burn d updates onto disc, then reinstall
them if I decide 2 format d PC, therefore savin time?

To a folder named WUTemp. However, the folder is emptied automatically when
the installation completes. If you want to keep copies of updates to install at a
later time, configure the Windows Update site to show the "Windows Update
Catalog." Files downloaded from this source are specifically for saving and
installing later (instead of for web installations).

Where are the updates stored -
I have noticed a variety of formats that Windows does
this.
1.) Stores them in the local user account (Document and
Settings - YOUR USER - Local Settings (HIDDEN FOLDER) -
TEMP
2.) Stores them in the local user account (Document and
Settings - YOUR USER - Local Settings (HIDDEN FOLDER) -
TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES
In one or another you should be able to find files that
you have installed using the windows update.
I find that storing the files in TEMP INTERNET CACHE is
logical... although not possible in more complicated
applications
