hello folks
i've just installed xp sp2 from cd, and i find that it blocks my lan. the
firewall has been disabled but still the same. i've setup sp2 on many
computers but only ever get this problem on this maxdata 400m laptop.
message pops up in system tray and reads "limited or no connectivity".
before sp2 all was well, and i've reproduced this error.
has anyone got any bright ideas?
cheers
roger

Have you configured the firewall/LAN connection?

If on the Internet, be careful with the firewall shut down,
you're asking for a worm.

don't worry, was nowhere near the dialup!
well, seems this is a fairly common issue with sp2. many odd solutions are
suggested, none of which worked for me short of delving into the registry
which i'm reluctant to do. so i will live with a lan-less home (lucky we
have a spare printer) until ms brings out an update to fix this embarassing
glitch

The firewall will block ANY connection, including a LAN in
the home, it is not just the Internet. I use Zone Alarm
(free) and you set the LAN in a trusted zone, with the SP2
firewall, open Control Panel/security center/firewall and
then place your LAN in the exceptions (file and printer
sharing) and advanced (list your LAN).
