View Full Version : Blue File Names

I spent several weeks without using my laptop this summer
and when I started regularly using it again, noticed
something strange. A lot of my file names were colored
blue rather than black. This has happened a lot in "My
Documents" in Office files that I have written up. This
is an issue more of aesthetics, rather than a critical
error, but I would appreciate any assistance rendered.

Files that are compressed are displayed in blue. You can turn this off if
you like. In Explorer select Tools, Folder Options and go to the View tab.
Scroll down in the list of advanced settings and find the setting for "show
encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color." You can toggle the setting
there.

Greetings --

By design, WinXP compresses files that do not get used frequently,
and, if you've left the default settings intact, displays those files
in blue.

In Windows Explorer, Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced
settings: Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color.
