Belkin pcmci card freezes system when plugged into XP pro sp2

I have an old gateway laptop updated with xp pro and SP2.
My network card was working fine, however, it now freezes
the computer completely when plugged in. Is this a SP2
issue??

Hi,

Try use other latest XP compatible network card with XP compatible drivers.
If the symptom persists, go to add or remove program to remove SP2.
Then search gateway website to ascertain whether there are update patches,
BIOS , chipset drivers, etc. for your laptop model for the installation of
SP2.
