Concerning downloading MS updates. I've noticed several references to some
having problems when adding updates while having their anti-virus programs
running. I have my a running 24/7 and certainly while on the net, and have
had a problem only once, which occurred after clicking on an update
announcment in my systems tray. That particular update failed, so I went
back and downloaded the same update in the ususal manner, which was
successful.
My question is, should my AV be turned off , or not ? Just want to cover
all bases and not cause myself any unnecessary difficulties .

It should definitely be turned off, even though it usually won't cause a
problem.

Thanks for your replies. So, off it is. Just one more____thing to remember
to do without fail, turn the _____thing back on.

Mad Max,
I've never turned anything off when running the Windows updates and never had
a problem yet. Given the current environment, I'd be very hesitant to turn off
my firewall while online.

Barbara;
I believe it is the Anti-Virus that was named as the problem, not the
firewall.
Even so, I have discovered that turning off my Grisoft AV requires a reboot
in order to turn it back on. Even though I may be on borrowed time, my AV is
staying on, at least until there is a catastrophic problem . As for my
firewall, I use Zone Alarm ( free ), but also a Linskys hard wired router,
which I would not turn off , even if it offended the Guv. No disrespect
intended.

if the update requires a reboot why not turn off the a-v
and just do the reboot for update and a-v.
