View Full Version : New Hardware Found...

I was having problems with my Lexmark Z45 Inkjet printer stalling on
my Windows XP system and some one informed me about correcting it
which I did, but now that I deleted the drivers that were for Win98
and reinstalled the correct ones for Windows XP, I continue getting
the icon in my taskbar telling me that a New Hardware has ben found
and the system attempts to install it (or trys). I installed the
correct drivers and the printer works just fine, but why is my system
trying to install it every time I reboot, or most of the time I
reboot? How do I tell it to stop trying to install hardware for the
printer I have already installed?

1. Physically disconnect your printer from your computer.
2. Open your Control Panel and uninstall any Lexmark printer software
listed in the Add or Remove Programs applet.
3. Go to Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes, right-click
on any printer icons and select "delete".
4. Visit www.lexmark.com and download the latest Windows XP
compatible software/drivers for your specific printer model.
5. Install the software drivers per Lexmark's instructions.
6. Reconnect your printer to your computer.

Thanks for that information... that sounds exactly what I did before
that got rid of the pesky problem with the Printer stalling before I
removed the drivers and all associated stuff that was installed with
the Windows 98 install CD.

Now, to make it stop telling me it wants to install what has been
already installed... Duh!

if u still have the original CD that came with the
printer, just pop it into the pc and when it comes to "new
hardware...." just search for the driver from the CD and
let the installation complete. it sounds silly but once
windows is satisfied that it has the correct driver, it
will leave u alone.
good luck,
