View Full Version : SP2 Program OK To Delete?

Question:

After one installs SP2, and you go to the REMOVE/ADD programs list,
would it be WISE to delete the SP2 it has on there?

We're not sure if after install it's necessary to either leave it on there,
or to delete the program...

Thanks!
Infnet

Ummmm if you delete SP2 from "Add/Remove programs" you REMOVE SP2!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what the "Add/Remove Programs" window is FOR!

If you uninstall SP2 from the Add or Remove Programs applet,
you will, in fact, uninstall SP2. That would not be a very prudent
thing to do.

Hi

For folders you can consider deleting and other disk cleanup tips
after a successful SP2 installation, take a look here:

The Add/Remove program list takes little space. The list is much smaller now
that all of the prior critical updates have been subsumed by SP2. New
critical updates that follow SP2 will also show on the list.

Only if you want them to. You can choose or not to show updates by
toggling the updates checkmark on the Add or Remove Programs list.

Hi Infnet,
Just to clarify this matter. In the beginning when you did NOT install ANY programs you can NOT
see NEW Programs there. Now when you begin to install some program (including SP2) and you
notice something NOT working good THEN you can choose Remove it.To Remove it is to uninstalled
THAT very program you chose to remove. BUT if you think you can now Remove a good working
program THEN you should know that you are Removing (Uninstalling) it or may I ask why you want
to remove a good working patch or program? I would suggest to leave it there and wait for another
patch to replace it.

Have you NOT click SP2 or others and your PC will immediately tell you that "to change this program or remove it from your computer,
click Change/Remove button'?

Hope this help - write back,

Hi Infnet - As others have said, that will just uninstall SP2. If what you
want to do is "clean up", take a look here:

That is there to allow you to uninstall SP2. Once you are sure you will
not want to do this, look in Windows for the hidden
$NTUninstallServicePack folder and delete *that*. If you try add/remove
the entry will now fail and be removed itself. Other tidying up points
in the section on that at Installing SP2:
