unknown program running

I closed out all my programs and after a while I came back
to it and went to put my password in and I noticed it said
one program running, and of course the tower was making
the appropriate hum. I do not know which program was
running and I went to the task manager and the only
program it recognized as running was the help program I
opened trying to find this "Unknown program" so I could
shut it down. Any suggestions, actually please help. I am
running XP, Thanks Jenna
