View Full Version : Booting loop after installing SP2 on new machine

Last week I bought a new machine. I loaded XP onto it, and thought that if
I then installed SP2 before doing anything else I'd have a pretty good
chance of success.

However, once installed, when I tried to boot up, the Windows "Splash"
screen would appear for a couple of seconds, followed for about half a
second by what appeared to be an error message, and then the machine
rebooted. This happened whether I choese normal, last good configuration,
or Safe mode options.

I eventually decided to reinstall XP from scratch, and so far everything
seems fine, but obviously I'm now wary about trying SP2 again.

Has anyone heard of this particular problem, and if so, is there a solution?

TIA

Try creating a restore point before installing SP2.\
