View Full Version : Secondary partition is not accesible
December 11th 03, 07:51 AM
Due to a virus my partition D: is not accesible
anymore ...when I try to explore it there are two
messages that come up:
D:\ is not accessible
The parameter is incorrect
and The file or directory is corrupted and
unreadable.
I really need to access that directory anyone can help
me ?

Right click on "My Computer" and select Manage from the menu. One of the
options on the left will be Storage and under that is Disk Management. If
you drive doesn't show up as formatted you might have to reformat to get it
back.
Sorry, Ed.

It does show up like nothing is wrong, it is even labeled
as healthy, but if I try to explore or open it my pc
freezes for a few seconds and then the message appears
again (D:\ is not accesible....)

I'm assuming you have tried a reboot. Did it scan the disk run?
Also you might try running: chkdsk d: /f
Let me know if that does anything.

Ed buddy, I bow to you, you are a true magician and
master of the synthetic world...you should ask for a
raise, wherever you work.
I ran chkdsk d: /f and it said the same thing as if I
rebooted..."the type of the file system is FAT32"...and
it asked me if I want to continue, I said yes...and it
said it repaired some files...and now my D: is accessible.
Now, in the folder I wanted to recover, most of the
individual files are missing...like 80%, is there any way
to get them back or could they be missplaced??
I imagine the files could not just vanish unless when the
drive was repaired they got erased??? Pls get back to me

The missing files were probably cross-linked, which explains why you had so
many disk errors. Look in the root of your drive for files with a .CHK
extension - these are probably the remnants of your missing files. However,
they may or may not be recoverable (some may just be fragments of your old
files).
