Ever since installing XP SP2 programs will not communicate with my HP 4300C
scanner. I've installed the latest drivers from HP and the Device Manager
indicates that the device is working properly, but it doesn't. The scanner
software will not load even though I added it to the firewall exception
list.

I'm also having problems opening certain file types (e.g., PDF) locally on
my machine, especially in my browser.

Any help would be appreciated.

The problem may not be with SP2. I had a HP 4200C which for no reason at all
just went belly up about a year ago. Probably mechanical but there's no
point in repairing these things anymore as its cheaper to go out and buy a
new one.

This may not be the troubles you have but I contacted HP=20
before installing SP2 and they told me to uninstall my=20
all in one printer, scanner, copier and unplug it. Then=20
after SP2 was downloaded and working OK to reinstall=20
software for all my extras.
