Hello,

I hope someone can help me with my problem. I just
installed XP Home edition, and after updating with the
latest downloads from Windows update found that I
couldn't restart as the computer stopped at the "Starting
Windows" screen (light blue middle with dark blue top and
bottom). It never progressed onto the logon screen. I
tried to start in safe mode and using last knwon good
config etc, but none of these worked as it hung at the
same place again. On this screen you can see the mouse
pointer which moves when you move the mouse, so it hasn't
crashed but never goes any further. The XP install was on
a clean new drive, NTFS format all running on a computer
with Abit KT7A v1.3 board, Athlon XP 2000 processor, 512
mb RAM, 80Gb Maxtor Hard Drive.

Thanks for your help in advance, the only way I could get
round this was to reformat and reinstall!

Thanks

Nigel

Reinstall your previous OS, then, while at the desktop, place the XP CD in
the drive, when the setup screen appears select "Check System
Compatibility," this may give a clue as to why you are having trouble with
the installation.
