View Full Version : Explorer default view

Whenever I open explorer (by clicking My Documents, My Computer, or anything
else that causes explorer to be displayed), when it initially is displayed
the "Folders" button on the toolbar is depressed, and the "Tree View" in the
left pane is shown. In order to remove the Tree View and make the blue pane
with the Common Tasks Links visible, I have to hit the "Folders" button or
the "X" on the left pane to make it go away.

I could swear that when I first got this XP computer it was the other way
around, the blue links pane was displayed initially. Also the reason I got
interested in this question was that my Father asked me (the computer
expert) how he could make his come up with the Tree View initially
displayed. I couldn't tell him because that's the way mine DOES always
comes up, and I can't figure out how to change it!!

What do I have to do to change the way it is initially displayed.

(It is NOT the "Show common tasks in folders" vs "Use windows classic
folders" setting!)

Thanks

Hi Brad,

you can always open the Explorer window itself, this way you'll always get
the tree view. You can open the Expolorer window by pressing "Windows
button + E" OR from Start --> All Programs --> Accessories OR make a
shortcut to it..

Try typing in Start Run

regsvr32 /i shell32

Else you set the default action for a folder to Explore rather than Open =
in File Types dialog..

Thanks!
That answers my question. I had inadvertantly changed the default action
without realizing the consequences.
