SP2 Causes Smart Card Errors

When I installed xp sp2, my smart card stopped working!

I get the error "an internal error has been detected but source is unknown."

I reinstalled XP from scratch, then installed SP2, then my smart card
software. Still, I get the same error.

What gives?

Have you contacted your Smart Card software vendor for possible updates or
news on their support for SP2 ?

Yes. They told me that there is a configuration error caused by installing
SP2. I uninstalled SP2 and the error remains. It is quite obvious that SP2
caused there error -- everything worked before SP2, and installing it still
doesn't fix the error.
