I have an Aopen ax4c max motherboard with p4 2.8 and 512
ram. I start installing xp and it gets as far as the main
installation files then stops randomly and says
certmgr.dll(this is totally random not always the same
files) was not copied correctly. the file setup placed on
your hd is not a valid xp system image. blah blah. retry,
skip or quit. if you retry it just stops again at another
file until it doesnt retry again. I've sent parts back,
I've tried various forums, xp installs ok on my old pc
with all the disk drives etc but wont install on my new
pc with any config of drives. 98 did install but couldnt
install anything else!!! come up with not enough virtual
mem. my hard drives are empty. any help would be greatly
appreciated. thanks Danny

The chances are about 90% that you have bad ram.
This is very common when 1 or more sticks are borderline bad or
incompatible.
Try replacing the ram, or if you have more then 1 stick in the system,
remove one at a time and try to find which is the bad one.
