[Cracker Jacks]

I am brand new to XP Home. I have a question, when I configure a user to
have limited access, a program that is installed does not run for that
users. What is causing this? Thanks in advance.

Ok I read the article. I do not understand the logic in having separate
admin/general user access but then a user would have to place a admin
account/password in to get the program to run. That means the user would be
able to log in to the admin account. Unless I mis-understand what it is
saying this defeats the purpose of having different account access levels
doesn't it?

No, it does not.

But it prevents anybody not authorized to perform administrative functions
on your computer from doing anything that can seriously affect your system.

And it tells you how you can run as administrator for a special purpose even
while logged on as a limited user (which ought to be your regular way of
logon
to your computer) rather than having to log off and login as administrator.

It is not the purpose of this method to permit anybody not authorized to log
on as administrator to run a program that requires administrator rights.

The program in question is a game. I want my son to be able to play the game
but not be able to run/install other programs unless I review them or set
up/remove other critical software function routines (backup, defrag ect). To
much ad-ware junk and increased virus risk (already having a big issue with
both of them since I converted from 98 to XP). Not saying it is anything he
is doing, just seems to be more of a risk with XP since I converted I hardly
had any virus/trojan attacks with 98 2nd edition. The ads I take care of
with a 3rd party utulity just for that function.

You misunderstood that article. Using the Run As feature does not give the
Limited User any Administrative capabilities. It is set by an administrator
so that when the Limited User runs that program, he is runjing it under the
administrators credentials. This does not allow the LU to perform any other
administrative functions.
