XP is not set up by default for maximum performance and
for DSL it requires you do some registry editing as the
changes cannot be made in the control panel\Network
Connections. The Recieve buffers are set low, the TTL may
be too high, the Black hole detect maybe enabled and so
on. There is one fantastic program that is free and will
do the changes for you. It's called SpeedXP and it's free.
I have tested this program personally and the changes it
makes are good ones. If you want to do the registry
changes yourself then e:mail me and I will give you the
reg route and the changes to make. Keep smiling.
