when i copy files from my network drive to CD or Zip on
an XP workstation the attributes change from archive to
read-only. how do i correct this?

When coping to a CD this is normal because they are read only once on a CD.
I'm not sure why it would change the attributes on the Zip unless it thinks
the device is also read only.

Files on CDs are usually Read Only. It's not unusual to have to remove the
Read Only attribute after they are copied back to a hard drive.
