My PC(running XP home) has just had a new Hard Disk
(fitted by myself) and now refuses to "stay alive" - it
boots up fine but blue screens after a maximum of around 5
minutes - which I assume is heat induced - any ideas as to
causes ?
I have run a disk checking utility which proves that the
disk is OK - could it be memory or processor ?
This is definately HW problem - it did it on Win ME also !!

What, if any, error messages are listed on the blue screen?

By the nature of a Blue Screen the are caused by something running in Kernel
mode. Thus I'm suspecting there is a problem with you new diskdrive and
some other device in your computer. One thing you might try is checking
what the disk is configured to. If it is set to automatically detect its
settings, change it to manual. It could be selecting a setting that some
other device is using "Occasionally" and when that occasion arises, you get
a blue screen. Also you might remove it (hopefully your OS isn't on it) and
see if the problem goes away.

Hope this helps and let me know how it comes out. Ed.
