View Full Version : Start-Up

On start-up or restart the Windows Media Player takes
over the display . To access the wallpaper, icons and
start tab etc, I have to exit or close the media player.
After that everything is okay. If shutdown or restart is
used the media player shows up first. Is this a virus or
what? Virus scan does not find any infected files etc.
Have run it three time, once in safe mode. Thanks for any
assistance from anyone. Best wishes.

Hi Hill,
Start/run msinfo32, expand the software environment and click on the startup
programs. Look in this list for a line that loads WMP *or* a line that loads
a media file. Make note of where that line is loading from, this is where
you need to go to disable it. If you are unsure of how to proceed, please
post back with the location(s) they are loading from for further assistance.

Hi Hill,
Glad to hear it. You may want to check your system for spyware, as it has
been known to cause this behavior.
1) Install and run Adaware from www.lavasoft.de
2) Install and run Spyware Blaster from
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
3) Dump all TIF's and selectively delete unwanted cookies
4) Turn on the native firewall or install a third-party one
