View Full Version : SP2 & Windows critical updated

Hello_
I have Win XP Home and have installed SP2 from disk and
have had no problems until I tried to check for further
critical updates online. I have tried several times and
am getting an error message saying
--You need to be a member of the administrator group--
(Error 0X8DDD0002)

Well thats all well and good but the problem is that I am
the Administrator/Owner/User of this computer and have
administrator rights to perform all other functions as
normal. Eg: make changes in regedit-msconfig/Services
ect...

I am extreemly frustrated by this as I thought by doing a
format and clean install on my computer, I might avoid
the plethera of problems that others seem to be having.
LOL Guess not!!!

Any guidence on this matter gratefully received as it
would be nice to wrestle back the ownership of MY
computer from the all emcompassing hold that XP appears
to grab at every opportunity.

Kind regards Sherry

My Admin rights are still in the clutches of Win XP SP2
The way Microsoft is going with its determined dominance
over the end users PC is paramount to hyjacking I
beleive. Despite my healthy respect for MS and my
continued fully licensed compliance of many of their
products: I find myself contemplating alternatives.
I have post to Microsoft and await yet another response.
What happened to the day when beta testers got paid to
iron out the bugs. When did the end user become employee
of Microsoft.

Come on guys. I know you read these posts. If we sat for
your certification tests and had so many bugs-- we would
definately be failed.

Dribble Dribble I know But it just isn't right!

Thanks for your attemp to help. Will post agin if I make
any progress.
Meanwhile I will use another PC to do my online work that
has not got SP2 on it until it is sorted. I feel sorry
for all those that do not have that option though.
Cheers Sherry

Sherry,
Do you happen to have another firewall installed? I used to have Sygate
personal and it BLOCKED the windows update site! Removing it made everything
work fine again.
