My son decided (against my advice for now) to put SP2 on his machine(2 days
ago) and apart from some known issues that I knew how to sort out it went
ok,now starting from today when the machine boots/reboots it goes to the
screen that asks if you want to go into bios or load optimal default
settings,to get windows to load you have to go into bios (have checked and
bios settings seem unchanged) then exit (not saving anything) then machine
continues to desktop but there is no icon for the floppy drive?? has anyone
come up against this before please and how do I sort it out (the machine was
fine before SP2).
Thanks TDP.

If there is no Icon for floppy drive then it looks like it has gone kaput!!! Perhaps opening the box and checking the connections would do no harm. Also, depending on how old the computer is, it is not a bad idea to change the floppy drive which costs less than $15.

SP2 is not perfect but I have not heard before that it breaks floppy drives. Few weeks ago we had a person on these newsgroups whose keyboard was broken but it is rare. Bill gates does not make software to destroy hardware -- not yet at least, otherwise we might find him making electronic bombs to exterminate all known terrorists from this planet. If he does than he can surely remain the richest man because his major customer would be George Bush's administation!!

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

I believe in good Financial Management!! I do not believe in enriching rich jerks!
