Windows Update for SP2

Hi all,

I've wrongly clicked the Download button when the Automatic Update window poped-up.
I really don't want to download the SP2.
By now, as I move my mouse pointer over the tray icon, the download progress is still 0%.
I'd like to "remove the download process of SP2" permenantly, but still keeps the Automatic Update service to be active.
What can I do to achieve this?

Hi

To avoid that Automatic Updates tries to install SP2 at all (up to
12. April 2005):

Toolkit to Temporarily Block Delivery of Windows XP SP2 to a PC
Through Automatic Updates and Windows Update
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=8BCE6BBA-EA5D-4425-89C1-C1CB1CCD463C&displaylang=en

Run the XPSP2BlockerTools.exe in the link above. It will extract
several files to the folder you specify.

Then run XPSP2Blocker.exe to activate the blockage (it will create
the registry value described in the link above).


The steps below may help on your "downloading updates 0%" problem:

In Control Panel/Automatic Updates, turn AU off if it is on, do a
reboot, and then turn AU on again and see if that helps.

If that doesn't help (or AU was off), try this:

Clean out the Download folder (WU5's temporary download folder)
located here:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

You can use the procedure described here:

You might need to delete the DataStore folder mentioned in the link
above, as well as the EventCache folder.

Note that a side effect of deleting the DataStore folder is that you
lose your WU v5 History listing (not critical).


If the problem repeat itself still, try the steps here as well:
