View Full Version : Why does File Explorer Search Miss Some Files ?

On an XP/pro/NTFS machine;

I open a CMD shell and type the following;

cd c:\
dir /s *.wab

This finds a WAB file in
\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book.

I right-mouse-click on a C: in file explorer, type "*.wab" into the
search for field, make sure that "look in" still says "local disk C:"
and click on search.

Nothing.

I look Explorer/tools/options/view and confirm that "display the
contents of system folders" and "Show hidden files and folders" are
checked,

"Hide operating system files" is unchecked

I've seen this for all sorts of file types, for years. Can someone
explain what is going on ?

This question applies to w2k, as well.
