SP2 Installation Reboots to Blue Screen Error

The SP2 install goes well until it is completely installed. When it tries to
reboot at the end of installation I get a blue screen error which reads as
follows:

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Please note that I do not have an AMD or Itanium processor, so the article I
am directed to the most does not apply.

Does anyone know the purpose of ntdll.dll?

I got the URL below by entering ntdll.dll in the Google search block.
Reading this and others referenced may answer your problem.

I had a similar situation that consumed many hours on the phone. It was
caused by a driver used by an old model scanner which caused the failure of
sp2 installed on WINDOWS XP Pro.

You could also go to Microsoft.com and find a phone number to reach a
Microsoft group that is dealing with sp2 and the many problems it is
causing.
