After downloading and installing SP2, the system did a soft boot OK. Shut
down computer and restarted. When the initial XP window comes up, the
activity bar sweeps for about a minute and then stops. After 10 minutes no
progress and keyboard is in active. Hard drive shows activity.
Current actions tried:
1. did a system reset ( hit reset button ) , same problem
2. did power down and restart, same problem
3. did 'Safe mode' Ok
4. In safe mode tried Restoring from 3 different dates, same problem
5. Tried un-installing SP2. Still same problem.
Actions to try next:
1. re-install SP2 from CD. Obtained CD from another user.
System:
WinXP Home Version, upgraded from Win98 Sec. Edition
MSI MB with Athlon 1900XP
512MB
G-Force 2 128MB Video
Any suggestions on how to find out what is locking system?
Thanks

Hi
Have you tried 'Last Known Good Configuration'?

Nope, that was the first thing I tried , prior to doing the restore. I am
sure it is a driver problem. Possibly with the network adaptor, Since I tried
safe mode with network, would not start. Still investigating.. Thanks
