I have posted this earlier and I Thank you for all your
replies..
To make things clearer..
I had Win XP Home edition that came with the laptop,
later I upgraded to Win XP Pro that came from a friend of
mine who sold me one of his software programs and has
special regsitration with Microsoft, he was able to
download a copy of Win XP Pro from the internet and put
it on a CD and gave me the activation Nos so I was able
to activate it..

on the new hard drive, I want to start fresh, I do not
want to transfer anything..

So I guess what you are saying is that I can install Win
XP fron the CD I have, call Microsoft and activate it..!?

thanks..
MK

If you're looking for help on how to install a pirated copy of
Windows XP, you've come to the wrong place.

Hi MK
If your just changing the hard disk it should install and activate fine.
However if your friend downloaded your copy from MSDN subscriber downloads
and sold it on to you that is a violation of the license agreement.

No Sir, this is not a pirated copy, it is an original
which I activated with Microsoft..
it is similar to what comes with a new computer, (you
purchase the computer and get the Win).
I purchased a custom made software program and got this
Windows and Microsoft is paid for it! that is how I got
to activate with Microsoft in the first place.

Certain MSDN subscriptions do allow the subscriber to download
localized operating systems, applications, etc. Naturally, the
subscription license expressly prohibits the subscriber from
distributing anything acquired via the subscription.

You wrote "he was able to download a copy of Win XP Pro from the
internet and put it on a CD and gave me the activation Nos so I
was able to activate it.." That doesn't sound to me like it's
something you bought.

I question whether Microsoft got paid. The only legitimate way of
downloading the system is through an MSDN subscription, and that is
under terms that provide it for evaluation by the subscriber - and not
as a production system, let alone for sale
