View Full Version : Problem emptying recycle bin

Jay
December 11th 03, 10:28 AM
I deleted a file and then went to the recycle bin and deleted it from there.
I noticed the disk space had not been freed up (it's a bit file - 800MB+)
even though the file was deleted and the recycle bin was empty. I hit 'Empty
the recycle bin' again and it came up with 'Are you sure you want to delete
WINDOWS?'

If I say yes then it says 'Cannot delete Dc7: Access is denied.'

What the heck is going on here?

See if you can restore the file, then try renaming it and see if you can
then delete it.

Hi Jay,

IMPORTANT: All the files deleted previously will be erased permanently.

If this does not help, create a dummy notepad document and save it. Delete
the file and let it go to recycle bin.
Now, empty recycle-bin

Solution 2: You may want to delete the Recycled folder or follow Kelly
Theriot's repair solution. (Deleting the info2 file). That should definitely
solve it. You may need to restart Windows after that. (it worked for me
after rebooting the system)

A reboot freed up the 800MB from the previous post but there is still a
problem.

I created a dummy file, deleted it, went to the recycle bin and emptied it.
It asked if I wanted to delete *2* files but of course there was only one
there.

It also came up with the error: Cannot delete Dc8...

From the command line I went to C:\recycler

This directory was empty

C:\>cd recycler

C:\RECYCLER>attrib -s -h -r info2
File not found - info2

C:\RECYCLER>attrib -s -h -r info
File not found - info

C:\RECYCLER>
