Afer installing SP2, the PC starts 'humming' whenever an
image file is selected or an attempt made to open.
This freezes up the PC and have to do restart everytime.
Also noticed similar humming in Explorer when going to
tools/folder options/file types and clicking randomly at
some file extensions.

Tried all the following to no avail:

1. Ran Spybot & Lavasoft Adawre
2. System file checker > "SFC /SCANNOW"

Humming as in the noise?

Can you narrow down the area which is making the noise, monitor,
interference over speakers, the actual computer (front, back?). Sounds like
a hardware problem, if you could narrow down the location, or better yet
provide an audio clip that would help work out what isn't 100%.

It is odd it only seems to do it when you're doing specific things though.

Or is it an actual recording of someone humming coming over the speakers
(how scary would that be)? 8-)

Paul,

This is NOT hardware related (100% sure of that).

It's an annoying sound when selecting any image type file and causes the
screen to freeze up. Is seemd the PC is trying to open the file but nothing
happens. Everytime this happens I have to hit the restart button. Other file
types (excel, word, txt) are not a problem, I can open them, edit etc.

Kachi.
