View Full Version : Updating Windows Update

Hello,

My new computer came with the automatic Windows Update notification set to
notify my of new updates. When I first started the new computer, the Update
told me there were many critical updates and patches that I needed -
naturally. But because I have a slow ISP, I went to the update page at MS
and updated manually for those that were most critical over the course of
several days.

My question - the automatic update is still telling me that I need certain
things, even though I have already gotten those. Is there a way to reset
that feature so that it only tells me the things I do really need and not
what I needed from the start? I think it is a handy feature, but not if I
need to weed through the list and see which ones I have already.

Would turning it off and then back on do the trick, or is there another way
to reset it?

Thanks!

TN

You guessed right. In my experience, going to My Computer -> Properties ->
Automatic Update and unticking the "Keep My computer up to date.." box, then
clicking OK, then repeating the procedure to re-enable the feature, solves
this particular problem.

Good luck..

Thanks David,

I thought that might be the case. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Or - you could turn it off altogether and just go via the
Link on the All progs list - that way you have more
control over what is Dwomloaded\Installed

Hi

It could be due to the fact that your PC is 2 years behind time.
