Hi there.
This is a common problem as I've noticed by all the messages around on
google on both web sites and news groups but I still fail to get my
networking working.
* Running XP
* Using router to connect to internet (internet connection fine on all
computer on lan)
* Few other computers, brothers, parents, freebsd box, all work fine with
accessing the network
I did have a laptop running Me (owch!) and that also worked fine connecting
to the network. In network neighbourhood on all the computers they can all
see each other.
Now I've just got this PC and never really used XP before. I set up the
network, just the same as I would in any other Windows and when I go to...
My network places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network
I get my workgroup name listed as 'Moore' - this is all correct, and it's
the same thoughout the whole network!
When I click on 'Moore' I get the Error...
"Moore is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.
The network path was not found."
Now on all the other computers you'd see my parents computer and my Freebsd
computer but this error always comes up and I can't figure it out!
I've disabled the firewall. My IP address isn't conflicting with anything
else...
-----------
C:\DOCUME~1\DARREN~1>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.104
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
-----------
I am an administrator on this computer - there is one other user and that's
'Guest'.
If i go to '\\192.168.1.100' I can access my parents machine fine.
I can ping the ip and the name, the same with my brothers computer and the
Freebsd computer.
I know that the samba on my freebsd is all set up correctly but I can't go
to '\\IPADDRESSOFFREEBSD' or '\\NAME' ...
Help!
Sorry if this is baddly worded - just woken up!
Thanks
