I installed SP2.
Had a problem with Windows.
Put original XP CD in my drive to access the repair option.
No longer available after SP2?

Hi

If you want to 'Repair' install SP2, you will need to create a slipstreamed
CD. Otherwise a 'Repair' install will revert your system to the version
that is on the XP CD you use.

Guess I didn't explain my self very well. I don't even have the option to
'Repair' when I put my XP CD in the drive. I used to before installing SP2?

Hi

What options do you see? A 'Repair' install for SP2 should be possible by
pressing Enter at the first screen then pressing 'R' at the second screen.
This works OK with a slipstreamed SP2 CD.

Hi again!
There are the normal 4 options when the CD starts.
Prior to SP2, when clicking on the first option (Install XP), the next
screen gave a few options, one of which was to repair an existing
installation. NOW, a screen pops up saying that Setup can't continue because
the version on the computer is newer than the version on the CD. It suggests
that I would have to uninstall XPSP2 and reinstall the original XP version.
The "Repair" option isn't there anymore?????

So what is a 'Slipstreamed SP2 CD'?
Thanks

Hi

A slipstreamed CD merges SP2 + the original XP files onto a CD that can then
be used to 'Repair' SP2 - or 'Clean' install XP. You will, however, have to
download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

and then follow the directions in the following article:

http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=show&showarticle=49

Your seeing that message because you have SP2 installed and the XP CD you
are trying to use is from an version.

Done!
Instructions a little vague at the end of the process so I burned 2 CDs. One
with the bootable option in Nero and the other without. Now I'm confused. I
assumed that this CD would boot up like the original Win XP CD and give me
all the options I know and love. All that happens is that a window opens
showing the .iso file on the CD. I can click on this and see all the files
that are included. Not as automatic as I had expected or hoped. Am I doing
something wrong?

No one is answering my request for help with this problem. I was hoping a
repair XP option on the new slipstreamed CD would correct this. Any
suggestions?

While trying to install/upgrade some software/hardware the following error
message appears:

16 BIT WINDOWS SUBSYSTEM (on a blue background)

(the rest of the message is within the error message window)
C:\Documents and Settings\Me\Local Settings\Temp\
A temp file needed for initialization could not be created or could not be
written to.

Anyone know what's missing?
Thanks
Stephen
