View Full Version : can't connect to one server?

For over a week now I have been unable to connect to the
server that hosts my website. I also cannot view any of
the websites hosted on this server, send/receive mail or
connect to the server using an FTP program. Examples of
website hosted on this server is www.worped.com ,
www.gigposters.com .

This is happening on two computers I have. Both use
Windows XP Home Edition and the same ADSL connection -
one connects to a Netgear router with an ethernet cable,
the other with a wireless adapter.

I cannot ping the IP address - the request times out. 4
packets are sent, 4 lost.

On a few occasions I can connect to the server and view
the sites etc, but for absolutely no apparent reason,
this happens very few times.

I can view any other server/website on the internet. I
can receive email from other servers. I don't have any
trouble connecting to ADSL itself.

I use IE6, have tried using Netscape 7.1, but no joy.

I've contacted the server hosting company, there's no
problems their end. I've contacted my ISP, no problems
there either.

I have had trouble with spyware/adware that came
(hidden!) with a program I installed which interfered
with IE, and it seems to be around the same time that
this has started happening. I have uninstalled most of
the spy/adware now and have no problem with IE. I cannot
see how this is related because it doesn't explain how I
can't connect to the server on the second computer.

This issue is unbelievably frustrating and have no idea
of how to sort this out.

Any help or replies would be very very very much
appreciated!

Thanks in advance

A ping times out here too. Using the browser, www.worped.com is "being
redesigned." No content there at the moment. www.gigposters.com came up
with no problems.

Since the only problems you are having are with one server, either they are
having trouble (they aren't always truthful when they have problems keeping
up with traffic) or there's something on your setup blocking contact with
the server.

Any internet helper or internet security program installed? Parental
controls? Firewall settings? Mail washing, popup and cookie blockers? Check
settings and "rules" in any and all online programs that are installed. Use
Notepad to check the contents of your HOSTS file (it's in Windows's
system32\drivers\etc folder).
