If you are that scared of using a computer, you might want
to seriously consider moving back to the other
neighborhood.

Why would we cease going to windows update webpage? Just
because they are planning on having updates once a month
(unless there is a critical one that they need to push out
quickly), we would still need to get windows updates, and
a lot of us have disabled the automatic update feature.
The updates are signed by Microsoft, and that should be
pretty friggen hard to fake...

The computer is peaceful in your home... when is the last
time your computer grew arms and attacked you?

What the hell kind of firewall are you using that doesn't
let you do anything? A decent firewall should let you do
quite a bit of stuff and block people from connecting to
you on any odd port numbers. Try Zone Alarm.
