After I installed SP2, I all of a sudden had a problem with WMP9. Whilst
playing an MPEG, it showed me one second of video and then the screen went
purple whilst the audio continued. The qualitiy of some of the audio was all
of a suden deplorable.

Upgrading to WMP10 did not resolve my problem, the symptoms stayed exactly
the same. When I play the same MPEG in Windows Movie Maker there is no
problem.

Any suggestions to fix my problem?

I had a user that had a similar problem. We also downloaded WMP10 and it
didn't fix the problem. What we did to fix it may sound dumb but it worked.
We deleted the video and audio files she had and then restored them from the
recycle bin. After doing that they played like they should have.
