I installed SP2 from the Microsoft CD sent to me and I am
receiving alerts, have the firewall, etc., but Windows
Update shows SP2 is not installed. What should I do?

What do you mean Windows Update shows it's not installed?
You said you installed it from a CD so why would you expect WindowsUpdate
site to have it listed in its Installation History?
Go to Start/Run and type in: winver [ENTER]
It will tell you the revision of the OS.

If SP2 doesn't show in the History and also doesn't show up as an update
to install, I would forget about it. If you can't get past the SP2
update on WU to install new updates (like the fantastically useless GDI+
detection tool), then I would use the WU troubleshooter to start resolution.
