desktop icons

I have Windows XP Professional loaded on a Dell laptop
computer. I manually arranged the desktop icons. Each
time I close the laptop and reopen it the desktop icons
are rearranged in a random order. I thought it may have
something to do with the desktop clean up option, so I
unchecked to preform a clean up, but it did not solve my
problem. Any suggestions?

Arange them the way you want, go to display properties - desktop icons and
then save that config. If they don't stay that way you can always just click
on the config you saved and bring them back.
