XP Installation

I have just purchased a copy of XP 2002 Home Edition from
E Bay. It is a OEM version so of course there is not much
in the way of information available. Now that I have it
and have installed it on my lap top how can I legally also
install it on my desk top so both are compatable? Can this
be done? Also, what is the "activation" and if it is
activated, can it then be installed on both computers?

You can legally install it on your desktop by buying another copy of XP. 1
computer = 1 license, 2 computers = 2 licenses, etc.

You can't.
XP can only be installed on one computer.
You have to purchase a seperate copy or license for each computer you want
to install it on.
Further, the OEM version has another restriction.
Once installed on a computer, your laptop for instance, it can never be
legally installed on another computer, even if you dispose of the laptop.
An OEM version is tide for all time to the first computer it is installed
on.
That is one reason it is cheaper.

Activation is the process Microsoft uses to ensure you do not install it on
more then one computer.
If you do not activate it, after 30 days it will no longer work.
Once you activate it on one computer, you cannot legally activate it on
another.

Bottom line, if you want to install it on more then one computer, you have
to purchase more then one copy.
