Legacy Hardware Drivers

Guys,

I just updated to XP Pro. The drivers for my sound card [Maxi-Sound
Muse] on the install CD do not appear to be compatible. The Guillemot
web site to download XP drivers appears to be dead. Any suggestions or
solutions for getting my soundcard operational?

I'm not trying to be flip but my answer is "Yes, get a new soundcard."

Drivers are the responsibility of the manufacturer. If they've gone out of
business, the possibility of getting drivers compatible with XP is remote.
There are sites that do this but you have no guarantee it will work and you
won't know for sure that any other problems you might have stem from those
drivers. It's a situation you'll be fighting for as long as you have this
setup.

The best advice I can give is to purchase a compatible soundcard. You can
check out compatibility of cards in which you might be interested at the
following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/compat.asp
Also check the card manufacturer's website for XP compatible drivers before
purchasing.

Instead of trying to fit a round peg into a square hole, the best thing you
can do is purchase a new card for your system.

Thanks for the solid advice. I went to some of the generic driver
sites but did not get a warm and fuzzy feeling. Because I am not doing
a lot of gaming/multimedia I will get an inexpensive compatible sound
card and be done with it.
