I have an old version of Quickbooks and since installing
SP2 for Windows XP it will not run since it complains
about the autoxec.nt file being in error.

Right click the programs executable > Properties > Compatibility (tab) >
under "Compatibility mode" check "Run this program in compatibility mode
for" select a 9x OS such as Windows 95 or 98.

I had the same problem. I searched for autoexec.nt & found a copy in a
folder called "Repair". Drag & drop a copy into C:\windows\System32 & voila
it worked.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Fred,

I saw the repair file but I was scared to use it because
of its name. I thought that maybe it was a virus fie. But
now I know you have tried it I will do it this evening
when I get home.

Thanks again

Thanks Andre

I will try that this evening along with a couple of the
other suggestions. I am sure one will help.

Hi

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt/config.nt by
copying a backup copy held in %windir%\repair\ to %windir%\system32\
(%windir% is typically C:\Windows) instead of using the procedure in
the KB article above.

Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g.
TrojanDownloader.Win32.Dia.a, more about this here:
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=5f6f139.0409140618.749324fe%40posting. google.com

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause if you
have WinXP SP2 installed:
