Freezing

I bought a used laptop p4 Toshiba, with Windows XP...
Yesterday when i started the pc, a message appeared
saying: ur wndows XP password will expired in 14 days..i
dont have the old password to chose a new one...what will
happen in 14 days?
Plus since yesterday everytime i start my pc the system
FREEZES on the screen that says WELCOME....then i have to
press Ctrl+Alt+Del to continue the start up...Does this
Freezing thing has anything to do with the password...AND
how can i stop my sytem freezing on the WELCOME screen?

Sounds like you purchased a laptop that has a password protected
Administrator account and you do not have that password and you are being
signed on as a user and have to change password every (i think around 40
days). Have a IBM 560x that I have been playing around with with W2k which
passed thru 3 people and no admin password so can not do any changes of
software, formating hard drive, etc. What is even worse no floppy and the
BIOS will not allow booting to CD. Not worth playing around with by buying
a floppy and new hard drive. Without the Admin password it is very nearly
impossible to recover it unless you buy commercial software. Seems a lot
easier to reformat the hard drive and start over if you have the xp cdrom
and can boot from the cdrom. Not sure if it is possible. Mabey someone has
an idea and will post it.
