I was preparing to go away for the summer and had to
remove the palm pilt charger from my desktop. I had no
trouble with this issue ever before. I HAVE NO SOUND. My
computer is a Gateway 7000x. It was a very high end one
in Nov. when I bought it. I called support and they tried
everything. There are yellow question marks and 1
exclamation on the sounf areas. We did device managers
and so many steps. Now I would have to look in my
programs to see if he had me remove anything. Their
thought were that XP got confused and I will probably
have to back up everything and do a new install of XP. I
am shaking in my boots. That is much too complicated for
me. I just cannot imagine how this happened out of the
blue. I have wires all over underneath this unit . I have
checked all the connections from the back of the comouter
to the subwoofrt and the speakers. They are all
connected.PLEASE HELP.I am a 57 yr young woman with
ahusband that does not even know how to put on the
computer. I am still on AOL dial uo PLESE ANY SUGGESTIONS

Did Gateway have you check for updated drivers for your soundcard? If you
know the soundcard manufacturer, try going to the web site and look for
updated drivers for your card or, you might just reinstall your present
software for your soundcard assuming Gateway gave you a separate disk with
the soundcard software.
